Hunger Games Tweets |
This Tumblr page will expose the Hunger Games fans on Twitter who dare to call themselves fans yet don't know a damn thing about the books. |
elizersgrotto asked: This blog is killing me! hahaha I am having a laughter induced asthma attack over all of this fuckery.
LOL,
I’ll let your laughter compensate for the bitter tears streaming down my face when I read these tweets!
dalleena asked: Been reading you for a while but had to join tumblr to comment! I just wanted to let you know that not all white people are this freaking stupid! When reading I certainly didn't visualise Rue as the "perfect" Aryan! To be honest I wasn't sure what race she was intending whether African-Panemian or Indian or any of the other darker skinned races. However when I saw who they had cast I knew for sure she was beyond perfect for the role! Beautiful, Innocent and utterly charismatic!
The ignorance towards Rue’s character is by no means restricted to a single race of people and I’ve seen many people (who I assume to be white from their Twitter pics) stand in defence of Rue’s casting.
And to those people, I thank you and ask that you keep it up.

nahchillhomebro asked: *sigh* I cannot believe that these people who claimed to have read the book are surprised and legit upset at Rue's casting I mean it says in the damn book that she has dark brown skin, pfft "post racial society" my ass
I’m willing to accept people saying (respectfully) that they misinterpreted what it meant when the book said that Rue and Prim were similar therefore they assumed they looked the same. I’ll side-eye you a bit for poor comprehension… but that’s about it.
I don’t like the folks who are steadfast and indignant with their misunderstanding and getting into a huff.
bellatropa-deactivated20120529 asked: this blog is awesome, you are awesome. people are dumb as balls and are so swept up in their preconceived notions about the world and especially race that they fail to actually read what was written in the hunger games books. you rock.
Thank you.
It’s a bittersweet activity. Seeing all of the hateful tweets puts a damper on your day… but seeing people of ALL RACES come together to protest the ignorance that people are displaying… that makes it all worth it.

shionsnezumi asked: I actually am ashamed that so many people are having hissy fits over the fact that Rue is black. It's so annoying. Why does it even matter? Rue is Rue. The actress who plays Rue is so adorable. I just want to throw something at these idiots.
I know what I’d throw at them…
A Tracker Jacker nest!

ki--smith asked: As an black african american, who is a big fan of the books. I never felt so sad to see people act like this towards casting, and I mean it's just plan ignorant and judgmental. This girl has the skills - just look at her acting skills from Colombiana! She has talent.

I agree. What is there to object to regarding this girl?
Makes Rue’s death less sad? Ruined the movie? Gimme a break.
bakethatlinguist asked: How do you find these people?!
It’s really not hard.
I thought that there were a lot of them last year (when casting was announced) and in the hype weeks leading up to the movie.
But once the movie came out… wow. The amount of people who seem to all share these views just increased exponentially.
I’ll admit… seeing all of it after the premiere night just overwhelmed me and I felt like throwing in the towel.
desirsecret asked: Sighing all day long at the ignorance and prejudice of people. I'm not a violent person but damn can we put racists in a Hunger Games of their own and let them finish each other off.
LOL,
I’ve seen quite a few people suggest this recently.
I can only imagine what the treaty that outlines the basis for the games would look like…
ritzrubble asked: How can people not think Amandla Stenberg is adorable? She's like the cutest thing ever. Don't get it.
She really is a beautiful young lady.
Such a beautiful smile and great personality, and quite intelligent to top it all off.
liberalexplosions-deactivated20 asked: Have you seen the movie A Time to Kill? In the end there's a court scene where the main lawyer character describes a brutal rape of a young black child (mirroring that of his actual case), and once he finishes asks to audience to imagine the girl white instead, causing the jury to totally reconsider the case, knowing they would have been sympathetic towards the white girl. Kind of reminds me of the reaction to Rue in a way? Except backwards. =/
Yes, yes, 1000x yes.
I was planning on using that analogy to help illustrate the purpose of this blog to someone that left me a bit of a condescending message in my inbox.
But you are right in point. That is the exact way to look at this.
I’m pretty sure that many of the people expressing shock over Rue being black experienced this as a result.
Ya but tell us how you really feel…
canujustnot asked: just wanted to say thx for this blog and your comments. those tweets are disgusting
Thank you for following. I need the support of folks like you to help me expose this ignorance to the world and make it come to an end.
absolutelyiris asked: I'm terrified by 1. the amount of people that are actually offended and upset that Rue is black, and 2. the amount of people who obviously don't know how to read. I fear for the future, I really do.
I fear for the future as well. Isn’t this stuff unbelievable?
Here’s what scares me…
All these… people… read the Hunger Games. Clearly, they all fell in love with and cared about Rue. Though what they really fell in love with was an image of Rue that they’d created in their minds. A girl that they knew they could love and adore and mourn at the thought of knowing that she’s been brutally killed.
And then the casting is revealed (or they go see the movie) and they’re shocked to see that Rue is black. Now… this is so much more than, “Oh, she’s bigger than I thought”. The reactions are all based on feelings of disgust.
These people are MAD that the girl that they cried over while reading the book was “some black girl” all along. So now they’re angry. Wasted tears, wasted emotions. It’s sad to think that had they known that she was black all along, there would have been so sorrow or sadness over her death.
There are MAJOR TIE-INS to these reactions and the injustices that we see around the world today. I don’t even need to spell it out because I know that you’re all a smart bunch.
This is a BIG problem. Think of all the murdered children. Think of all the missing children that get NO SCREEN TIME on the news.
It is NOT a coincidence.
THIS is the purpose of my blog… and to also point out shitty reading comprehension. LOL
So… You sorta have to read this one from the bottom up.
Just before the top tweet, mari (@inspect0rfagg0t for those who wanna say hi) has her line of thinking questioned by a friend, at which point she activates the CAPS LOCK to show that she means business.
Anyway, this is the sort of tweet that you read and reply with a simple “lol u mad?”
