To Kill a Mockingbird meets To Kill a MockingjayHey Racists: You guys need to learn to read. Thresh, Cinna and Rue were described as being black. Please stop being huge d-bags all over my internets. Thank you.

I really like this…Rue.
LolDear Twitter users mentioned in the above article:

Hunger Games is a controversial story (Oh—I’m sorry, I forgot to introduce myself: my name is Captain Obvious.). It’s got oppressive governments, famine, child-soldiering and gladiator slaughterfests with a dash of reality television. It pushes the idea that violence and conflict spares no one,…
Special thanks to ceruleanyou for referring this account.
@maggie_mcd11 was one of the hunger games fans featured in several of the articles that suddenly popped up on Monday about this blog. Naturally, she has abandoned the account and it’s now been assumed by a comedian who is now turning the “Not gonna lie…” line into a meme.
And yes, I’m laughing at this.
zanderpants-deactivated20121228 asked: As a respite from all this Rue-hate, I'll admit I originally imagined Cato to be a tall, muscular, Asian guy with dyed blond hair, forgetting that Cato was a Roman name.
Honestly, the name of the character is irrelevant.
Truth be told, there really is no excuse for there not being more Asians featured prominently as some of the tributes (as opposed to background bloodbath victims)
Just want to show my appreciation for the support of those who’ve been following from the beginning as well as those who’ve started following recently.
This one had me laughing for a while. Special thanks to arulein for referring this tweet to me.
I just had to share this because I think it’s an awesome tweet.
chickenandgrits-blog-blog asked: it really mad my stomach turn to see some of the tweets and comments that people had on the race of the characters who were clearly described int the book.. but what ever.. the focus should be on how well the actors performed in that role, how well the film adaptation reflected the book.. the "i was surprised' or "i was disappointed" because a character, who was clearly described a brown skin, shouldn't be the issue. p.s.. i thought Lenny was the perfect Cinna!! & Josh owned Peeta
When I first noticed the reactions, which was around the summer of 2011, it felt like a punch to the stomach. I honestly lost sleep seeing the things people would say on YouTube and various message boards.
I was soooo happy when I saw that Racialicious.com had featured that article written by Roxie Moxie (@_roxie_) calling out the same types of reactions on Facebook back in November 2011.
I’m sure a lot of you have read it by now. It’s called, “Yes, There Are Black People In Your Hunger Games: The Strange Case of Rue and Cinna”
falseperceptions-deactivated201 asked: Rue was the only character that I thought was cast correctly. Took me a while to get use to Katniss and Gale. Though I have no problem with the cast for Cinna, it did surprise me. Mostly because I remembered his description being brown hair with green eyes. Thoughts?
I don’t think anyone should have to feel bad for picturing Cinna as a white guy while reading the book. Brown hair, green eyes… Of course he could’ve been white.
